Girls Play House, Women Build Them

Girls Play House, Women Build Them

Encouragements about Women Build 2017 from our CEO, Tina Swain

Future Habitat Homeowner, Candice, and her family at the Women Build 2017 kick-off party.

Lately, I’ve been caught up in a personal battle with being tired.  I feel like I just can’t get enough sleep and when I do finally fall asleep, I wake up several times during the night.  Then I do the typical woman thing and feel like I’m not doing enough because I’m so tired.  Yes, over the years I’ve had my blood drawn and I’ve had my hormone levels checked…guess what?  I’m just tired.  As a woman with children, I think that is simply our fate.  We worry about the house, the job, the kids, and then we make some more things up to worry about like…Am I a good enough mom? Am I making a difference in our world?  Am I being a positive influence to my kids and co-workers?  Basically, Am I good enough?

As I sat this morning, having my pity party, I thought of Candice.  She’s our Women Build homeowner candidate.  She is a single mother with 4 kids…young kids.  Oh my goodness, I can’t imagine adding two more kids to my life.  I’d love them, but where would I find the energy?!!  Then, I think about the fact that she’s working and just to add a little more stress…she’s helping every Saturday to build her Habitat home and the homes of her other Habitat friends.  Okay, I said to myself…”SHUT UP!”  Yes, I’m tired, but that doesn’t make me not good enough; it simply makes me tired.  Look at Candice…all that moxie!  She’s so sweet and clearly loves those kids more than could ever be captured with the written word.  So, I say this…get out of bed and think of Candice.  Think of the Women Build and how it is empowering women all over Hillsborough County.  I’m going to raise my $600 today and build with other women this Spring.  Are you?
