At Habitat for Humanity of Tampa Bay Hillsborough, our mission extends beyond building and repairing homes. We work every day to address the policies and systems that make safe, affordable housing out of reach for too many families in our community. Through advocacy, we amplify the voices of our neighbors and partners to create long-lasting change.

Why We Advocate

Housing is foundational to health, education, and economic stability. Yet, in Hillsborough County, the cost of living continues to rise faster than wages. Many families are forced to choose between rent, food, and medicine. By speaking up and working with local leaders, we help ensure that affordable housing remains a priority in public policy, funding decisions, and community planning.

  • Affordable Housing Policy: Support local and state initiatives that expand access to affordable homeownership and repairs.
  • Neighborhood Revitalization: Encourage investment in infrastructure, safety, and services in under-resourced areas.
  • Fair Lending and Equity: Promote equitable housing finance and remove barriers for first-time and low-income homebuyers.
  • Disaster Resilience: Advocate for policies that strengthen homes and neighborhoods against storms and flooding.
