Home Preservation

The Habitat for Humanity of Tampa Bay Hillsborough’s Home Preservation program aids income eligible, single-family homeowners in Hillsborough County through several programs.

The Home Preservation program offers families assistance with minor non-structural exterior repairs. Eligible repairs include exterior paint and landscape, pressure washing, soffit/fascia/gutter repairs, and one time yard clean-up.

The Living in Place Program provides accessible ramps, handrails, grab bars and other minor repairs to address accessibility to ensure the safety and independence of our homeowners.

Critical Repairs like roof replacements, hazardous tree removal, HVAC or appliance upgrades may be offered based on availability of funding at the time of application.

Home Preservation brings people together to accomplish something special – to partner with homeowners and create and enhance community relationships. Through the support of our generous partners and volunteers, we can provide these services at a fraction of the cost to the homeowner.

n Homeowner Participation Requirements

  • Homeowners must complete and disclose all information needed during the application process.
  • Household income must be less than 80% AMI (Area Median Income) per HUD guidelines.
  • Homes must be single-family, owner-occupied in Hillsborough County, and homeowners must have lived in the home for at least 12 months. o Mobile Homes are eligible for accessibility ram
  • Mobile Homes are eligible for accessibility ramps, deck repairs, grab bars only.
  • Homes must have a Scope of Work that can be accomplished with the resources and volunteers made available through the Home Preservation Program.
  • Able household residents, family and friends are encouraged to work alongside volunteers during the project to build neighbor relations and community.
  • Homeowners must not sell their home for at least 3 years for minor repairs and 5 years for critical repairs after the work is completed on their home except for certain circumstances beyond their control. (i.e. illness, etc.)
  • Homeowners who have received services through Habitat’s Home Preservation Program must wait 5 years before reapplying for the program.
