Marco Barnett

Homeowner

For Marco Barnett, a home means stability, security, and community involvement. To him, owning a home represents a place where his family can grow and thrive, a secure environment they can call their own, and an opportunity to actively engage and make a positive impact in their community.

Currently, Marco faces significant challenges in his living situation. He spends more than 80% of his income on rent alone, leaving little room for other necessities. The place they currently live in has numerous maintenance issues, and despite the rent increasing every year, these issues remain unaddressed. A Habitat home offers Marco and his family the chance to live the American dream and secure their basic right to pursue happiness.

The biggest challenge for Marco is the constant uncertainty about whether he has enough to cover his living expenses. Owning a home would alleviate this worry, allowing him to build equity over time and budget more effectively with a stable mortgage.

Marco and his family discovered Habitat for Humanity while searching for an affordable home to finance. Recognizing the opportunity to achieve their dream of homeownership, they decided to apply for the program.

Early on, after moving to Florida, Marco’s family stayed with his sister in a two-bedroom trailer. Due to overcrowding, they were forced to leave, resulting in homelessness for two to three months. Despite having a job, finding an apartment was difficult, and the experience left Marco with a lasting fear of returning tothat unstable situation. Although he works hard, the rising cost of living keeps him in constant fear that his efforts might one day not be enough.

For Marco, a home is synonymous with stability, security, and community involvement. He values the peace of mind that comes with knowing his family has a safe and stable place to live. He looks forward to being an active member of his community and contributing positively.

Marco is deeply grateful to the volunteers and corporate sponsors who make Habitat for Humanity’s mission possible. He expresses his heartfelt thanks, saying, “I cannot explain how much he really appreciates the the hard work and love poured into the house that will become.a source of stability for his family.
