CEO Build | Homeowner Candidate
Lakeisha Gentry resilient soul whose journey with Habitat began in February 2023. Initially facing barriers, Keisha’s determination led her to Nelly’s financial program, where she learned invaluable lessons in saving, credit management, and
budgeting. Through this process, Nelly became
more than a mentor; she became a cherished
friend, a beacon of support in Keisha’s life.
For Keisha, the Habitat team isn’t just staff—they’re a circle of caring, compassionate individuals who’ve embraced her like family. The moment construction began on her future home, Keisha’s emotions overflowed, tears of gratitude streaming down her cheeks as she knelt in prayer, thanking God for His provision.
Surviving homelessness, domestic violence, and the uncertainty of shelter life, Keisha’s resilience shines through. Despite the storms, she held onto her job and her faith, steadfastly trusting in God’s plan. With unwavering belief, she prayed for a three-bedroom home—and, in divine timing, her prayer was answered.
Guided by faith, Keisha discovered Habitat through Patty Campbell’s words at a women’s shelter, recognizing it as a divine sign. Inspired by Habitat’s mission to “put God’s love into action,” she knew she was meant to apply. From participating in the CEO Build to becoming a homeowner candidate for the 2024 CEO Build, Keisha’s journey is one of transformation and hope.
Family is Keisha’s cornerstone, her love for her daughter and grandchildren fueling her desire to give back. With a heart set on helping others, she dreams of a future working for a nonprofit organization, paying forward the love and support she’s received.
In every step of her journey, Keisha’s mother’s wisdom echoes—a reminder to envision dreams before they materialize. Bringing her mother to the construction site, Keisha witnessed joy through her mother’s eyes, a testament to the power of faith and family.
To the Habitat team, Keisha isn’t just a participant—she’s Keisha, a cherished member of their extended family. With gratitude in her heart and determination in her spirit, Keisha eagerly awaits the day she can call her Habitat house “home.”
