Homeowner
For Bernisha Wilson, a home is more than just a place to live; it is a sanctuary where she can feel complete, whole, and accomplished. Expecting her first child, Bernisha is determined to create generational wealth and demonstrate strength to her child, starting with the foundation of homeownership.
Currently, Bernisha faces significant challenges in her living situation. At 34 years old, she shares a bathroom with her 29-year-old sister and her six-year-old nephew, making privacy and personal space hard to come by. As she prepares for the arrival of her baby, Bernisha recognizes the urgent need for her own space to achieve peace of mind and provide a nurturing environment for her child.
The biggest challenge Bernisha faces is the inability to afford an affordable mortgage. Despite participating in the “Dare to Own” program three times, financial ratios have hindered her progress. She believes that with a Habitat home, she will be able to secure a mortgage at an affordable price, allowing her to own a new home and provide a stable future for her family.
Bernisha was inspired to apply for Habitat for Humanity’s affordable homeownership program after exploring various options that could help improve her living situation. She found that Habitat was the best fit for her needs and offered the support necessary to achieve her dream of homeownership.
For Bernisha, home represents safety, accomplishment, and the ability to provide a stable environment for her child. She values the opportunity to create generational
wealth and show her child the strength and importance of having a secure place to call their own. Owning a home will give Bernisha the peace of mind she needs to focus on her family and their future.
Bernisha is deeply grateful to the volunteers and corporate sponsors who make Habitat for Humanity’s mission possible. She wants to express her appreciation and happiness for their time, hard work, and support. To the volunteers, she says, “Thank you for helping me build my home and making one of my greatest accomplishments come true.” To the corporate sponsors, she extends her heartfelt gratitude for building her dream home and helping her achieve this significant milestone. Bernisha’s journey to homeownership is a testament to the power of community and the transformative impact of Habitat for Humanity.
