Alfonso faces significant challenges in his current living situation. The high cost of housing makes it impossible for him to afford a standard mortgage, and the rising rent prices are putting a strain on his finances. With bills piling up, it’s hard to save money, making the dream of homeownership seem out of reach.
The biggest challenge for Alfonso is the need to work extra hours to afford a home for his family. This demanding work schedule leaves him with little time to spend with his loved ones, creating a difficult balance between providing for them financially and being present in their lives. Owning a Habitat home would alleviate this burden, allowing him to spend more quality time with his family.
Alfonso learned about Habitat for Humanity’s affordable homeownership program from a family member who successfully completed the program in Naples. Inspired by their experience, he saw Habitat as the best opportunity to secure a home for his family.
Alfonso’s journey began in Cuba, where he worked and lived on a farm. Life in Cuba was extremely challenging, with pervasive poverty and danger making daily living difficult. Many people, including Alfonso and his family, sought a better life in the United States. Five years ago, they finally made it to the States, seeking safety and stability.
For Alfonso, a home represents much more than a physical structure; it is a refuge and a foundation for his family’s future. He values the safety, stability, and sense of accomplishment that owning a home would bring. A Habitat home will provide the security and peace of mind that Alfonso and his family need to thrive.
Alfonso is profoundly grateful to the volunteers and corporate sponsors who make Habitat for Humanity’s mission possible. Their support means that his family will finally have a place to call home.
