Kearston Hardy

Homeowner

Kearston Hardy knows that home is more than just a place to live; it is where memories are built, future wealth is created, and a safe haven is established for her and her five children. Home represents comfort and a space where her family can truly be themselves.

Currently, Kearston’s living situation is far from ideal. With limited sleeping space for her children, she struggles to provide the necessary room for them to grow. The financial strain of rent increases adds to her hardship, making it difficult to provide for her family. Additionally, her two toddlers, who love to play outdoors, are restricted by neighbors’ fencing and pets, preventing them from enjoying the freedom they crave.

The biggest challenge Kearston faces is the lack of space—living space, storage space, and space for essentials like food and cleaning supplies. She believes that owning a Habitat home will address these issues by providing more space and living stability, allowing her family to thrive in a healthier, more comfortable environment.

Kearston was drawn to Habitat for Humanity’s affordable homeownership program because of its affordability, the fact that the homes are freshly built, and the nonprofit nature of the organization, which ensures that all funds go toward helping another family achieve homeownership.

Growing up in New Jersey in a home with a family of nine, Kearston always had a sense of home filled with memories, holidays, and parties. Despite the crowded conditions—five sisters sharing one room in a three-bedroom house—her mother made the best of their situation.

For Kearston, home is synonymous with stability, comfort, and a space to create lasting memories. She values the opportunity to provide her children with a safe and spacious environment where they can thrive. A new home represents the fulfillment of her dream to make her children happy and to give them a place where they can grow and be themselves.

Kearston is deeply grateful to the volunteers and corporate sponsors who make Habitat for Humanity’s mission possible. Their efforts put a smile not only on her face but also on her family’s faces, especially her daughter’s, who has never had a room of her own. Achieving her biggest goal in life—becoming a homeowner—would not have been possible without the support and dedication of Habitat for Humanity. Kearston thanks everyone involved for their hard work and generosity, knowing that their efforts have made a profound impact on her family’s future.
