Lateria Smart

Homeowner

Lateria Smart understands the true meaning of home as a warm place filled with love and safety. Her current living situation, however, is far from this ideal. Lateria and her family face numerous challenges, including mold growing on the walls, infestations of pests and rodents, and living in an unsafe area where maintenance issues are neglected. These conditions make it difficult to provide a safe environment for her children.

One of the biggest challenges Lateria faces is ensuring her kids have a safe haven. She believes that owning a home through Habitat for Humanity will transform their lives by providing a healthy, secure environment free from health hazards. This new home will allow her family to thrive without the constant worry of unsafe living conditions.

Lateria’s journey to Habitat for Humanity began after she completed a first-time homebuyers’ class. The information she gained there led her to believe that Habitat’s affordable homeownership program was the perfect fit for her family’s needs. Having grown up in a constantly shifting environment, moving every year and changing schools, she knows the importance of stability and wants to provide a consistent, loving home for her children.

For Lateria, a home is synonymous with safety, warmth, and love. She values the opportunity to create a stable environment where her children can grow up healthy and secure. The prospect of owning a home means providing a sanctuary free from the dangers and stresses of their current living situation.

Lateria is deeply grateful to the volunteers and corporate sponsors who make Habitat for Humanity’s mission possible. She wants them to know how thankful she and her children are for this life-changing opportunity. This is truly a dream come true for her family, and Lateria acknowledges that without the assistance of these caring individuals, becoming a homeowner would not have been possible. She looks forward to building not just a house, but a home filled with love and hope for her family’s future.
