From Building Others’ Dreams to Living Her Own: Young Habitat Foreperson Gets Keys to New Home

Habitat for Humanity and Publix Charities Dedicate East Tampa Home

TAMPA, FL (September 9, 2025) – After college, Becca Gaschler returned to her hometown of Tampa ready to start her career—only to find affordable housing out of reach. Even with a steady job, she couldn’t find a place she could afford. She tried renting a room from a friend but eventually moved back in with her mom.

Becca’s love for building, sparked by her grandfather’s craftsmanship, led her to work at Habitat for Humanity of Tampa Bay Hillsborough as a construction site foreperson. Helping others achieve their dreams of homeownership inspired her to pursue her own.

This morning, that dream becomes reality. Thanks to Habitat and community partner Publix Charities, Becca, 25, will receive the keys to the East Tampa home she helped build—one with a yard for her rescue dog, Scout. Like all Habitat homeowners, Becca put in hundreds of “sweat equity” hours on her own home with mortgage payments she can afford.

“I can actually plan for my future now,” said Becca.
