Habitat for Humanity Hillsborough Hosts 7th Annual Women Build 2023

The woman-focused home build event is dedicated to helping single mother gain access to affordable housing

TAMPA (May 20, 2023) – Following Mother’s Day, women in the Tampa Bay area are coming together to help a single mother realize her dream of homeownership. Habitat for Humanity of Hillsborough County is kicking off its seventh annual Women Build on Tuesday, May 16. Each year, the initiative focuses on issues that women and women with children face in regard to gaining access to affordable housing.

Nelly Colon, mom of three young sons, is the homeowner candidate for this year’s Women Build. Teams of women will work together to physically construct the 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath home that is expected to be completed this summer.

Colon’s connection to Habitat for Humanity reaches back to her childhood. After she was removed from her living conditions as a teenager, Colon began living with a friend’s mother – a successful Habitat homeowner candidate who shared information about the nonprofit with Colon. Now, Colon uses her first-hand experience to assist other homeowner candidates in her role as a financial coach at Habitat Hillsborough.

Media is requested to RSVP to attend.
