Habitat Hillsborough Receives Top Design Award for Veterans Build Home

The home, which Habitat Hillsborough completed in December 2019 for U.S. Air Force veteran Vincent Smith, was selected from among 100 entries from Habitat for Humanity affiliates in the United States.  In addition to being recognized with the top award, Habitat for Humanity of Hillsborough County will receive a $2,000 award and will be featured on Habitat.org.

The Smith family home, located in Tampa, is the “Rivera Plan” — a custom home designed to both compliment neighborhood aesthetics and fit on the lot which is more narrow than typical.  Habitat Hillsborough’s Veterans Build Manager Nitza Rivera led both the design and construction of the home, as well as efforts to obtain donated products for the home (products that excel in resilient qualities – like the metal roof).

Special thanks to our VP of Construction, Ron Johnson, for his work guiding the quality and resilience of the home.  We also congratulate and thank Nitza Rivera for her leadership on this home – the “Rivera Plan” – the Best in Resiliency winner!
