Raising the roof on the first of two Habitat-Thrivent Faith Build homes

Raising the roof on the first of two Habitat-Thrivent Faith Build homes

As the sun rose early Saturday morning there was a glow of a different kind on the build site as 20 volunteers arrived to kick off the start of the annual Habitat Hillsborough / Thrivent Faith Build.

Excited to be part of this annual faith community event, these enthusiastic volunteers quickly went to work to raise all the roof trusses on the Rodriguez family home in short order.

This year, the Habitat/Thrivent Faith Build is doubling the fun by constructing two homes instead of one. In addition to the home currently under construction for Jennifer Rodriguez and her three children, a second home will begin construction later this fall for Frederick Hobbs and his two children.

Faith Build is a special Habitat Hillsborough awareness event co-sponsored by Lutheran-based Thrivent Financial, which contributed $75,000 to help underwrite construction. This year’s Faith Build also features eight additional partnering congregations who have raised funds to help cover construction costs and will provide teams of volunteers to build Habitat for Humanity homes for two limited-income families.

Our Faith Build 2019 Partners include Silver Sponsor St. Timothy Catholic Church and Bronze Sponsors Apostles Lutheran of Brandon, Chabad CHAI of South Tampa, First Presbyterian TampaHyde Park United Methodist ChurchIslamic Society of New TampaSt. James United Methodist Church, and Watermark Church.

Also participating as Friends of Faith Build are All Saints Lutheran Church, Fishhawk Fellowship and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.

Join us as we applaud these faith communities for working together to collectively put their faith into action to help us build strength, stability and self-reliance for these two hardworking families!
