Inaugural Habitat Hillsborough Day

June 6th marked the first Habitat Hillsborough Day. This awareness event was established to draw attention to the affordable housing crisis in our community and to recognize the efforts that Habitat for Humanity is taking to respond to the crisis.

With the Hillsborough County poverty rate near 20% and housing rents increasing at a pace well above inflation, the challenge of locating affordable housing is daunting for many local residents. Habitat for Humanity of Hillsborough County, in partnership with homeowner candidates, donors, and volunteers, is building and preserving affordable homeownership opportunities for households unable to find suitable housing.

On Monday, June 6th, drivers in parts of Hillsborough County may have noticed orange pallets labeled “habaheart.org”. Visitors to that website learned about the local affordable housing crisis and were encouraged to support the work of Habitat for Humanity of Hillsborough County.

Thanks to all who helped paint and distribute pallets! We look forward to continuing to work together to increase awareness of and opportunities for affordable housing in our community.
